Dragons of Tarkir
After travelling back in time, Sarkhan Vol saves the Spirit Dragon, Ugin. The effects of this ripple through the timeline and avert the extinction of dragonkind on Tarkir. When Sarkhan returns to his own time, he finds a world that has greatly changed. Not only are the dragons still alive, they are leading the clans, which are now referred to as Broods. In this alternate timeline, the Broods focus solely on their allied color pairs, excluding the enemy colors that formed their original color wedges. Though rescued from death, Ugin is forced into hibernation to recover from the wounds he received in his titanic battle with Nicol Bolas. When Sorin Markov arrives in the altered timeline, he awakens Ugin from his slumber. Ugin agrees to travel with Sorin to fight the Eldrazi menace on Innistrad, but first insists that they find Nahiri, who originally helped to imprison the titans. Sarkhan also discovers that he is the only one who remembers the original Tarkir, and that in this alternate timeline, he was never born.
Collected Company is undeniably the most influential card in Dragons of Tarkir. This instant allows you to look at the top six cards of your library and put two creatures with converted mana cost three or less onto the battlefield. “Bant Company” decks dominated Standard throughout Collected Company’s stay in the format, so much so that the possibility of a ban was widely discussed at the time. Atarka’s Command fueled aggressive Red/Green decks in Standard and Modern, winning a Pro Tour in the hands of Martin Deng.
Dragons of Tarkir further explored the Morph mechanic, with Megamorph. Megamorph followed up on the existing mechanic by adding a +1/+1 counter on the Morph cards once they turned face up. Some Jeskai cards featured the Rebound mechanic, which allowed you to replay instants and sorceries on your next upkeep after casting them. Exploit was a new mechanic for blue and black cards which featured an ability that triggered if you sacrificed a creature.
